And now your ol’ pals T Lo will drop a truth bomb so devastating that our gay cards may wind up getting revoked if not burned and shredded by a rabid crowd of enraged queens and stans. Prepare yourselves.

J Lo’s in a style rut.

There. We said it. Come at us if you must, but in the entire decade we’ve been covering her red carpetry, this exact look could be inserted literally anywhere on the timeline and fit right in. And to be blunt, her style hasn’t just gotten stale, it’s smaller than it once was. There was a time when you could expect her to cycle through a fairly broad range of styles and personae, depending on what she was selling. Now, she’s selling all-caps J LO at all times. It’s drag, in other words. She’s better at it, largely because she’s got better relationships with the fashion world, but what Jenny does now is no different than Mariah Carey’s approach to style: a locked-in-place, rigidly controlled, narrow range of looks that tend to play to your memories of her. It has nothing to do with her age or what she’s capable of pulling off. She can certainly sport the plunging necklines and slits to the hip long past the point the cows come home. What we’re trying to say is that the cows came home years ago, girl. They’re hamburgers now.

Mix it up. Show us a J Lo we haven’t seen a thousand times before.
